The scourge of asbestos roofs

You can see what a great big roof the clubhouse (of my bowls and tennis club, see other posts by me) has in this image, very big and though not ideally orientated, catches the light for a good deal of the day front angle, and then back. We have been told we cannot cover it in solar panels of any sort though because it's an asbestos roof (made in the1930's I believe).  There must be loads of roofs like this in London, factory buildings, cinemas, etc. that cannot benefit themselves or those around with solar energy because of this. Couldn't there be some kind of frame system, so you could have the solar up there without the contact with or drilling through the asbestos? Getting rid of the asbestos roof is too expensive, and anyway only ends up in poisionous landfill (as I understand it).  Photographed by me.
